Turning forks into forests and cups into compost
The festival draws 8,000+ attendees each year and that can result in a lot of waste headed to our landfill. Part of river protection is being a good land steward because what happens on the land impacts the waters.
In the spirit of river protection, the festival has taken steps to lighten our impact through recycling and composting. We invite the community to help us lighten our impact by putting waste items in the corresponding containers.
Festival recycling and compostable guidelines can be downloaded here: Festival Materials Info 2016
Recycling
Food items may be served in containers that are recyclable in our community. Plastics #1 and aluminum soda cans will be collected in special blue recycling containers. These recycling containers are placed throughout the festival grounds so that you can help us lighten our impact by placing recyclable items in their corresponding container.
Cardboard recycling for vendors will be available.
Each festival we divert hundreds of pounds of recyclables from our landfill.
Compost
All food waste as well as paper and compostable containers are collected and composted right in our community through Matti’s Farm. Green composting containers are placed throughout the festival grounds so that you can help us lighten our impact by placing compostable materials like food waste, paper and compostable containers.
Each year we work together to divert more than 700 pounds of compostable materials from our landfill into nutrient rich soil.
